I have 2 A.S Phoon experiences to share:
Both occurred at Changi
The first incident=( happened 3 years back)
My brother-in-law's bike was retrieved from his home due to late payments, without any courtesy call to inform him of the late payment. This is despite him being a regular customer there and prompt payments for the past 26 months. This is justifiable but when he went to ASP to make full payment the next day to end the deal, they are unable to return the spare key which they were holding.
They told him that the key cannot be found.( how else did they retrieve the bike?). When he asked to be paid for the duplication of another key, they refused. This is after charging him a hefty penalty for retrieval and late payment of the bike. When he approached me, I told him to report to CASE but since he was a busy businessman, he said it was troublesome.
The 2nd incident=(happened 3 months back)
My P-plate friend wanted to get a KIPS. I brought him to all the shops in changi road and warned him about ASP before hand. But try as I might, he liked a bike in ASP.
During the 'sales talk' the salesman was criticising M1 motors and yew heng motors. I find that this is very immatured and unethical.
Anyway, I checked the conditions and highlighted to my friend a few faults that needed fixing. One of these is the tyre, which required immediate change. The next day, we went to the 2nd storey to settle the paperworks and returned in 10 mins. And guess what... the sales guy says he already change the oil already and the bike was standing at the same place( not at the service area).
The tyres... which he promised to change before the deal was made, was never changed. He said that the whole of Singapore is out of stock, and he'll call when the tyre arrives.(until today no call was received....this a tactic used by them frequently[based on: we didn't say that we won't do it for u]) I looked at my friend and gave him the "I TOLD YOU" look.
I brought him to another shop (it's at No. 453 geylang road.... further up changi road and asked him to sacrifice some $ and not to risk any accidents. So he changed the tyres(Yes..the one that the ASP expert said that was out of stock in the WHOLE of Singapore. The ASP oil change seemed very suspicious so I asked the mechanic to drain some oil to check the cleanliness. And what have we.... thick dark dirty oil.
As you can see the 2 incidents are so far apart and it is the only 2 incidents that I am indirectly involved with.( thank god that I am not directly involved)
I pity all those poor brothers out there who were cheated 'professionally'.
I have been riding for 8 years and I stay near their changi road branch. I have always heard negative remarks about them.
To aztecbozz: It doesn't matter whether the boss says comforting words... If he means what he says, he should discipline his staffs. U go to serangoon now and u'll still see that guy happily smoking a stick and going about his job.
It is all an act...that's all. If there are so many complaints, do u think that the boss is an Angel and his staffs are all rogues?
The culture of that company is negative, rude and ungentlemanly. Bikers as I have known, live by the 'cowboys rules'..... one of it is "do what u promise to do". Now let u be the judge.
For those who still want to make dealings with ASP, buy 1st hand bikes(if it's the cheapest around but check if the brembo is changed to Nissin etc.) and pay the instalment promptly and don't ever go there for servicing. For 2nd hand bike buyers... ur life will become stressful and frustrating.
If u go there with a "this time, it'll be different" remember that instalment packages last a very long time and u may fall into the hole once u sign the papers.
I hope bros. with same experiences will educate others and p-plates about such rougue shops. And pls write ur experiences in such bike forums so that bike shops will raise their standards, in an honest and truthful manner. Sometimes, it may be your fault that the shop guys behave undesirably.
My suggestion:
+go to 453 geylang road if u are servicing class 2B bikes
+go to opp. angulia mosque... there's a bike shop at that row, along serangoon road, just before turning into syed alwi road, if u r servicing RXK or older.
+go to Mah Ltd if u r buying and continue ur services with them.( they've got expert mechanics).....but they don't service bikes which are not bought from them(sort of integrity thingy and providing speedy services for their own customers)....A little expensive but the quality is apparent..... I strongly recommend this shop for class 2 bikers who demand peace of mind.
The above shops have been good to me through my 8 years of climbing from class 2B to 2 but be cautious and don't trust them completely. If ur gut feel is negative, trust it. The above is for u to at least know where to start.
Oh yah.... What's with those brothers who keep the ASP stickers that ASP sticks on their mudguards. U don't get paid or get discounts rite?
